Zanzibar Gem is a stunner of a plant with thick, glossy green leaves. While Zanzibar Gem can be grown outdoors, it’s most often considered an almost un-killable indoor plant, as it has a resilience to low light areas and lack of water.
In the wild it survives drought periods by disappearing almost completely and then re-sprouting from its underground, potato-like tubers when the rains eventually come. So, in the unlikely event that your Zanzibar Gem appears to have died, a good drink just might encourage it to start developing new shoots!

Allow the kokedama to fully dry out between watering. Water less frequently in winter and when the plant is growing in low light.
Typically every fortnight through summer months, then reduce to every 3-4 weeks through winter.
HOW TO WATER
Fully submerge your kokedama in a bowl, sink or bucket. You may need to hold it under for a moment! Allow to soak for 10-15 minutes until kokedama feels heavy and full.
It is important to gently squeeze out excess water from the kokedama by pressing between two hands, on the sides towards the base. This will ensure your kokedama does not stay waterlogged which will prevent conditions such as root rot, fungus gnats and mould. As the moss and twine are natural products they are biodegradable and as such, squeezing out the excess water will prevent deterioration, prolonging the life of your kokedama.
