There are many stunning types of Rubber Plants, which all belong to the Ficus Elastica family. The most common variants we use and are frequently featured in our kokedamas are: Robusta, Burgundy and Ruby.
With large and hardy glossy leaves, Rubber Plants really are stunning statement plant that is a must have for all indoor plant collections.
Rubber plants can be enjoyed as either medium-sized house plants or grown to become a larger focal point, indoor trees. If you’re patient enough to grow your own, plants that start out younger when you buy them adapt better to indoor living than starting with a more mature plant. They can grow to impressive heights within a few years, especially if you put the plants outside during the summer. Alternatively, keeping the plants in small pots will restrict their growth, if you want to keep them smaller, but will not upset their health.

Medium and bright filtered light is best but keep out of direct sun. For best results, the brighter the light, the better. Keep to warmer positions, away from cool drafts.
Through the warmer months, water often. Typically weekly to ensure healthy growth.
In winter, allow kokedama to dry fully between watering. Typically water fortnightly.
Rubber plants also enjoy higher humidity, so especially in summer, be sre to mist the foliage regularly.
HOW TO WATER
Fully submerge your kokedama in a bowl, sink or bucket. You may need to hold it under for a moment! Allow to soak for 10-15 minutes until kokedama feels heavy and full.
Alternatively, you can gently water from the top as you would a normal pot plant. Simply part any lower foliage to expose some soil and gently water. This method will also ensure the moss and twine wrap is prolonged.
It is important to gently squeeze out excess water from the kokedama by pressing between two hands, on the sides towards the base. This will ensure your kokedama does not stay waterlogged which will prevent conditions such as root rot, fungus gnats and mould. As the moss and twine are natural products they are biodegradable and as such, squeezing out the excess water will prevent deterioration, prolonging the life of your kokedama.
